Government provides Housing to all in Punjab

The government had launched a scheme by the name of ‘Housing for all’, under which it will be looking for big land chunks, where a number of houses can be prepared for the people who are living in the slums. This will improve the condition of their living and offer them a healthy and standard living. Along with this, it will also help in beautifying the city and remove the chaos that the slums create. 

As per the instructions of the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister, the concerned authorities will finalize the lands that are to be used under this scheme in the next one month and also housing will be arranged for the people living in the slums or the people from the low income group. The Department of the local government, along with the Department of Housing and the State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee, will be deciding the beneficiaries under this scheme and will a lot the land according to the same.

Guidelines have been given by the government to these concerned departments on basis of which the beneficiaries will be decided. It is the sole responsibility of SLMC to keep a quality check on the housing being prepared, timely preparation of the same and allotment to the respective groups. 

Currently, the local government has already earmarked 30 sites to be used under this scheme and these sites are spread across 18 cities in the state. The demand survey of these sites is right now in progress, after which things will be taken forward. The properties that will be made under this scheme will be affordable and subsidized, so that the low-income group wont face any problem shifting here. 

The concerned authorities are being advised to go through the successful models of such schemes in different parts of the country, like the Dharavi model in Maharashtra, and take cues from the same and come up with a successful model for this scheme in the coming days. This scheme will specially focus the slum areas in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. 

This will be a great scheme to encourage the low-income group and help them lead a good standard of living. Various workshops are being organized by the concerned departments in different parts of the state, to work out the best possible plan for slum development in Punjab.
