Trains are one of the most used modes of transport for
passengers to travel from and to Punjab and in different parts of the state.
The Railway system in Punjab is so well-connected as it offers a number of
options of trains on each and every route, so that you can choose the one that
suits your needs the most.
The TirathYatra Scheme has further helped a number of
pilgrimage tourists in the state to visit various pilgrimage and heritage sites
around the place. On March 17th, another train that is a part of
this scheme has been started and will leave for Takhat Shri Hazoor Sahib at
Nander from Shahkot. This train will take around 1, 000 devotees to the
destination and other Gurdwaras in the vicinity.
The train departed from Shahkot at 9 am and was flagged off
by Ajit Singh Kohar, Transport Minister of Punjab. Special buses have been made
available for the passengers to go to the railway station. Also, there will be
a team of expert doctors in the train for any emergency purpose, if required
for the convenience of the passengers. There are a number of many more
facilities, which are a part of this journey for the devotees.
Another route, which will be a relief for a number of
passengers, has been added to the charts. The New Delhi-Bathinda Shatabdi
Express has now been extended up till Ferozepur. There were a number of
passengers who regularly travel on this route and had to disembark at Bahtinda
station and take transportation further, but now the journey has been made a
lot easier for them. The Union Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu has agreed to
this addition and says that the train will be extended till Ferozepur
Cantonment Railway Station from 10th of July 2016.
There was an experimental stoppage being carried out on the
Kalka-Barmer Express at Bhucho Station, which has now been granted and has been
made permanent on the route. The New Delhi – Bathinda Shatabdi express, which
will further go till Ferozepur will be running on two days of the week – Monday
and Friday and will leave Ferozepur at 4.00, am and Delhi at 4.20 am on their
respective routes. Currently the train runs on Monday and Saturday with a
different time schedule.
In addition to the extension till Ferozepur, the train will
also stop at three more stations, namely, Tohana, Kotkapura and Faridkot.
